Using Xanga

TEMPXangaXanga is another service to use within the Posterous network. It’s another opportunity to get easy backlinks to your sites. The only different thing with Xanga, however, is that you can’t get a site-level link. In other words, there isn’t a place to put a static link into your profile, so you just need to make sure that you put a link in your various posts when you create it.

To set up your Xanga account:

Go to http://www.xanga.com/

On the right-hand side click the button “Start a Blog”

Provide your username (use keyword phrase, so it will become your URL, ie, mykeyword.xanga.com), password, email, birthday and CAPTCHA. Then hit “Create Account”

In Step 1: Select a Theme

In Step 2: Place a Welcome Post. Since you can’t get a site-wide link, you can add a link to your welcome post. So, go ahead and create the brief introductory post.

Click “Continue”

Now to get a link to your main site, you can generate a link from one of the phrases in your introductory post, so, click on the “more” button. Where it says “weblog” click on “edit”. Now you’ll find various functions about the introductory post you had created. Here, click the “edit” link. At this point you can select your phrase and add a link. You can add a link title to that as well (this is not the same as anchor text). Hit “save changes”. You’ll now find the link is active.

You can go to the public Xanga page you had created such as mykeyword.xanga.com, you’ll see that there is a single post, which includes the link.

This is a way to get around the fact that Xanga doesn’t allow a site-wide link.

Now go add your Xanga details into your Posterous account for your Publishing Network.
